Introduction to Performance/Sport Psych

As the Recover Lead, my goal is to teach you about ways people approach the management of physical stress and mental stress. As a reminder, we categorize stress management into three different groups: active recovery, passive recovery, and mental skills. As a physiotherapist, my training and practice allows me to explain active recovery and passive recovery techniques from a place of expertise.

As I have reinforced in previous posts and episodes of Fuel. Move. Recover. A performance and wellness podcast I am not a psychologist. Thus, my posts on mental skill development are introductions to topics that I find interesting. Learning about these topics makes me a better clinician, athlete, and overall person, so it’s a win-win for both of us. But we want to do more.

The Advancing Athletics Ethos is “Clinical experts. Serving all athletes. Coaching you.,” and this week’s post is another way that we are expanding our commitment to that. Below is a recorded conversation I had with Dr. Jack Lesyk, Ph.D. Dr. Lesyk is a Performance/Sports Psychologist who owns and operates the Ohio Center for Sport Psychology. He was kind enough to introduce us to himself and the field of Sport Psychology.

You can learn more about Dr. Lesyk on his website www.sportpsych.org

You can contact him via email jjlesyk@SportPsych.org or follow him on Twitter @sportpsychoh

As we move forward, we will continue to introduce more clinicians and topics to help you optimize your performance and wellness. We want you to know the importance and power of mental skills in contributing to how you thrive.
