FMR Guide to Weight Management

Hi, folks!

This #familyweek we decided to talk about weight management. Many of us struggle to find a balance that ensures we meet our weight-related goals. Whether you have weight to gain or lose, the end goal is successful weight maintenance that allows us to feel good, perform well, and be healthy. Remember that our weight is affected by a variety of factors and causes a variety of issues.

Do you have any questions about maintaining, losing, or gaining weight?

The most important component of managing your weight is your nutrition. Even if you exercise religiously 2 hours a day every day, you still have 22 hours before and after the workout (and mid-workout fueling maybe) where your fueling will determine the effectiveness of your weight management. Furthermore, there is a lot of marketing and branding both in commercials and at the grocery stores that go into influencing the foods we consume. This is a challenging landscape to navigate but we’ll work to help you figure it out.

What questions or comments do you have regarding physical activity and weight management?

The physical activity we do as a part of achieving weight-related goals is also important. For those of us losing weight, only so many calories can be cut before our bodies respond negatively to the restriction. For those of us gaining weight, if the activity level and type aren’t well-planned the type of weight gained won’t be optimal. All this joins together to create an opportunity to balance what you do to complement what you eat.

What questions or comments do you have about stress management and weight management?

The way we manage stress, set goals, and develop a mindset about weight management is an important component to finding success. Everyone struggles to find their way without a roadmap. We all deal with the challenges of adversity, finding growth from it, and making forward to achieving goals. Furthermore, making goals takes work so we have to take care of ourselves to ensure you can make progress. If we get injured or get inadequate sleep, for example, then we’ll struggle to make progress. It can be easy to get derailed so instead, let’s develop strategies so obstacles slow progress instead of stopping it.
