FMR and the XYZZZs of Sleep

In the past few weeks, our written content has promoted the benefits of a secret weapon to better fueling (fasting) and better movement (pelvic floor). The secret weapon for your better recovery is sleep, which we consider to be a primary component of Passive Recovery. As is the case with all things FMR, sleep is affected by your nutrition, by your physical activity, and your stress management. So on this week’s podcast, we will discuss all the questions and comments you have about sleep!

Once you read this, head over to the Forum to submit your thoughts for us to discuss on this week’s podcast. Remember only Members can submit questions to the forum so you will have to subscribe to the plan that fits best for you then submit your question!

Fuel for better sleep.

Sleep can affect how your body processes the food you eat. Sleep can also be affected by the food and liquids that you consume. While some people think these two things (fuel and sleep) as being unrelated, many of us can remember a time when we had trouble sleeping because of what we ate or drank. Or how many of us have gone to the fridge late at night when we can’t sleep. Have questions about anything related to how sleep affects your fueling or vice versa? Or the best late-night snacks?

Movement for better sleep

Movement can affect how well you sleep depending on how much energy you use during the day. Movement can also affect how well energetic you are during the day that blunts the effect of too little sleep. Furthermore, because of the energetic effect of exercises sometimes it is bad too exercise before bed. Also, sleep can impact movement because of how much tissue healing is done while you’re unconscious. Did you know you use certain exercises to help improve how you sleep? If you coach kids, it is best to schedule things at night or during the morning.

Recovery for better sleep.

Sleep is the primary component of the Passive Recovery subsection to the FMR model. It is also affected your management of the other subsections, Active Recovery and Mental Skills. Learning to shut your mind off is as important as remembering to brush your teeth or let the dog out one last time. These things are will important and become more glaring when you aren’t getting the sleep that you need. Do you wonder if certain techniques can improve your sleep? What is the best position to sleep in? These are all valid questions that we’ll tackle together!
